Arc Raiders Team Unveils Ambitious Strategy to Combat Cheating Issues

After several prominent streamers voiced their frustrations over a surge of cheating in the extraction shooter Arc Raiders, the developers at Embark have announced that they are implementing “significant changes” to tackle the issue.

In a message on the game’s official Discord, Embark’s community lead, OssenJ, reassured players that the team is aware of the ongoing discussions and is “taking this issue very seriously.” She emphasized that player feedback is being acknowledged, stating, “Over the next few weeks, we are implementing significant changes to our rulesets and deploying new detection mechanisms to identify and remove cheaters.”

It appears that Embark’s response to the cheating problem was somewhat delayed, as much of the team was on winter vacation, leading to a backlog upon their return. However, with the full team back, they are set to make some much-needed adjustments. Plans include “updating our Anti-Cheat systems for improved detection and bans,” and addressing one of the major complaints by “applying client-side fixes specifically targeting the ‘out of map’ glitch.” Additionally, they aim to introduce tools for streamers to “help mitigate stream sniping,” which allows players to exploit the visibility of streamers’ locations and actions.

Whether these measures will satisfy the concerns of those who have previously raised alarms remains uncertain. Streamers like Ninja and Shroud have been vocal in urging Embark to enhance their efforts, while Nadeshot suggested that the studio might need to adopt tactics similar to those of Epic, which has taken legal action against creators of cheating software. However, some have pointed out that Epic is a massive corporation with substantial resources, while Embark is a smaller Swedish developer still in the early stages of its journey. That said, Embark is a subsidiary of Nexon, a Korean company valued at around $20 billion, so significant action isn’t out of reach.

My own experience with Arc Raiders over the past week has been frustrating. I genuinely love this game and consider it one of my all-time favorites.

However, the level of cheating is alarmingly high, possibly even worse than during the peak of Call of Duty. I’m not trying to exaggerate…

Given that the anti-cheating measures are expected to roll out “over the next few weeks,” it will take some time to see how effective they are. For those who prefer a less combative experience, it’s likely that you’re being matched with other PvE-focused players, allowing you to avoid the cheating issue altogether.
