Archie Andrews Takes a Dark Turn: First Look at His Descent into Hell
Archie Andrews has faced more than his fair share of teenage challenges over the years. He’s battled through a zombie apocalypse, been pursued by the Predator, and survived a Sharknado. Now, he’s headed straight to Hell. In June, a new wave of Riverdale comics was announced, featuring Archie in Hell, a spiritual successor to Afterlife With Archie. Here’s an exclusive first look at this thrilling new chapter.
Archie in Hell will be penned by multiple Eisner Award nominee Patrick Horvath and Russ Manning Award winner Tyler Crook. “Working on this book has been a series of delightful surprises,” said Horvath. “When the opportunity was presented to me, it fit perfectly with my schedule.” Crook also expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the intriguing mix of horror and history it brings to the Riverdale universe.
Details have emerged about how Archie ends up six feet under. Here’s the official synopsis for Archie in Hell:
Every small town has its secrets, and Riverdale’s is a doozy: an ancient cult has infiltrated the community, intent on using human sacrifices to summon a demon lord into our world. They’ve pinpointed their final target: the beloved football star and all-around good guy, Archie Andrews. However, this secretive group never anticipated that real witches roam the streets of Riverdale. As the cult and a coven clash during the final stages of Archie’s sacrificial ritual, the fallout will be cosmic, and Archie will find himself facing a fate far worse than the depths of Hell.
Similar to Afterlife With Archie, this latest horror adventure features Greendale’s teenage witch, Sabrina Spellman. Preview pages reveal Sabrina uncovering the cult known as the Order of A’ldarax in Riverdale. Her aunts warn her that the cult is seeking a victim for a ritual aimed at triggering the apocalypse. The final preview page reveals that Archie Andrews is the cult’s intended sacrifice. In the closing panels, Crook’s nostalgic art shifts into graphic body horror, hinting that the worst is yet to come when Archie in Hell #1 drops on Nov. 4, 2026.
Before Archie descends into Hell, fans can grab the new flagship Archie title on Sept. 2, 2026. This series will be accompanied by a new Sabrina the Teenage Witch comic this October, all celebrating Archie’s 85th anniversary.
