Ark 2’s Release Date Shift Creates a Two-Year Buffer Before GTA 6 Launch
Ark 2 has a new release window, but don’t hold your breath for a quick launch, as the game is now slated for 2028. Developer Studio Wildcard first announced this sequel to the dino-taming survival soulslike back in 2020, but it has faced multiple delays since then. The 2028 date was disclosed during an investor event held at the NASDAQ Marketsite in Times Square, where the studio also showcased a fresh look at Bob, a character featured in various Ark projects, voiced by Karl Urban from The Boys.
Studio co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz shared a two-year roadmap for Ark: Survival Ascended, leading up to the release of Legacy of Santiago, a significant expansion that will set the stage for Ark 2 and introduce new gameplay mechanics for the sequel. Additionally, it was confirmed that Ark: Survival Ascended has sold 4 million copies since its launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S two years ago. Initially set for a 2023 release, Ark 2 was pushed to 2024, and after missing that target, the studio has been relatively quiet about its progress. Vin Diesel is not only starring in the game but is also contributing to its development in the role of “president of creative convergence” at Studio Wildcard. The franchise has also expanded into an animated series that premiered last year, with the second part of Ark: The Animated Series scheduled for 2026.
