Audible Integrates Ebooks and Audiobooks for Seamless Focused Reading

On Wednesday, a new “immersion reading” feature was introduced that aims to enhance the audiobook experience by allowing listeners to follow along with the ebook version. While enjoying an audiobook in the app, users can simply tap the “Read & Listen” button located above the book cover to access the text. As the audio plays, the corresponding text is highlighted in real-time.

This dual reading and listening option could significantly boost comprehension for those who find it challenging to maintain focus on their reading. It’s also a great tool for language learners, as the feature will support a vast selection of titles at launch, including works in German, Spanish, Italian, French, and English.

The immersion reading feature is currently being rolled out to users in the US, with plans to expand to the UK, Australia, and Germany in the coming months. To utilize this feature, users must own both the audiobook and ebook versions of the title. Additionally, a similar feature called “Page Match” was recently tested, allowing users to scan the current page of an ebook or print book with their camera and sync it with the corresponding timestamp in the audiobook.
