Backrooms Returns to Theaters with Extended Cut for July 4 Weekend

Backrooms has emerged as one of the standout films of 2026, raking in over $330 million at the box office, making it A24’s top-grossing film to date. If you haven’t experienced it yet, you’re in luck: an extended version of Backrooms will hit theaters on July 3.

Titled Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition, this version features an additional 15 minutes of exclusive footage that won’t be available when the film streams or is released on disc. Instead of integrating deleted or extended scenes throughout the movie, this edition will showcase “post-credit bonus footage from Kane Parsons,” bringing the total runtime to just over two hours.

The AMC listing for Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition doesn’t specify how long it will be in theaters. However, at least one AMC location in New York City has showtimes available through Tuesday, July 9.

Based on a series of YouTube videos inspired by an old creepypasta, Backrooms has become a horror phenomenon. It currently ranks as the second-highest-grossing horror film of the year, trailing only Obsession. With this re-release, it’s poised to surpass the latest Star Wars film in box office earnings.

In our review, we hailed Backrooms as “the best horror movie since Weapons.” We also had a conversation with director Kane Parsons, who just turned 21 and can now legally celebrate the film’s success with a bottle of champagne, discussing potential sequels, the film’s ending, and the mystery of all those dead birds.

If you’ve already watched Backrooms and Obsession and are on the hunt for your next chilling experience, we have some recommendations for you.
