When you think about the chaos of Overcooked and the intensity of the TV show The Bear, it’s clear that cooking and roguelike games are a match made in culinary chaos. Omelet You Cook is a roguelike where you whip up the titular dish for eager customers, juggling a constantly changing array of chaotic ingredients. Since its full launch, it’s been making waves on Steam.

The game officially launched on February 8 and quickly climbed onto Steam’s New and Trending chart, indicating it has captured a lot of attention. Only games that have reached version 1.0 can snag a spot on this list, which showcases ten titles in chronological order.

This is a promising sign for any game, especially for an indie project like Omelet You Cook, developed by a core team of just two—Dan Schumacher and Hjalte Tagmose—along with contributions for localization and music. The early access feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the only negative review being from a troll who wanted to see all the omelets burn.

The transition to full release wasn’t without its challenges, particularly in finding the right launch window. The team initially aimed to avoid Slay the Spire 2, but that game shifted its release to accommodate Silksong, forcing Omelet You Cook to launch earlier than intended.

Fortunately, they pulled it off, but the journey was akin to a run in Balatroin. Speaking of which, the quirky poker-like game heavily influenced this omelet-making adventure, as the ingredients you choose affect your scoring in increasingly creative ways.

Achieving success is no easy feat, much like cooking in real life. It seems many players have been testing their omelet-making skills; it’s definitely less messy than cracking eggs in the real world.
