Baldur’s Gate 3 Actor Jennifer English Withdraws from Upcoming Fantasy Game Due to Health Issues

Prolific video game actor Jennifer English will no longer voice the main character in Eclipse Glow Games’ upcoming hack-and-slash action-adventure, Tides of Annihilation. The development team announced on July 17 that the actor, known for her roles in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, had to step down from voicing protagonist Gwendolyn due to “personal health reasons.”

“She will continue to support the project in an advisory role. Earlier in June, Jennifer informed us that she would no longer be able to continue in the role,” Eclipse Glow Games shared on X. “While we were, of course, saddened by her decision, we completely understood and respected Jennifer in prioritizing her well-being. We are also deeply grateful for the care and responsibility she showed throughout this process.”

The studio confirmed that a replacement for English has already been found with her assistance, though they did not disclose the new actor’s identity. This new voice will be featured in the latest version of the game that players can experience at Gamescom 2026 in August. “We have truly enjoyed this journey together and wish Jennifer all the very best, and most importantly, good health and happiness in whatever comes next,” the development team stated. “To our players, thank you for your continued support and understanding. We’re truly grateful to have you on this journey with us.”

English is widely recognized for her role as Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. She has also lent her voice to characters in Elden Ring, Wuthering Waves, and most recently, Marathon. Tides of Annihilation was first unveiled during a 2025 PlayStation showcase and features elements of Arthurian legend invading modern-day London, creating an urban fantasy action game centered on dynamic arcade combat. It represents the latest single-player AAA title emerging from China, following in the footsteps of games like Black Myth Wukong.

English’s involvement had significantly raised the game’s profile, and she recently won a BAFTA for her performance in Clair Obscur.
