Baldur’s Gate 3 Director’s Divinity Puzzle Appears to Have Been Unraveled

Divinity fans have cracked a major mystery posed by Larian Studios’ head honcho, Swen Vincke. While the developers haven’t officially confirmed the solution, it’s hard to believe this new easter egg was anything but intentional.

Last week, leading up to a big Divinity ‘Ask Me Anything’ session on Reddit, Vincke threw down a challenge to content creator WolfheartFPS: “If you can figure out my header, Wolfheart, I’ll let you ask one special question.” The header in question? A striking red image featuring a wobbly green and yellow bar running through the center.

It didn’t take long for the community to deduce that the image resembled a spectrogram, hinting at a sound-related tease from Vincke. Theories poured in—some tried to convert the image back into audio (we gave it a shot ourselves, but all we got was a wall of static), while others speculated about the sound’s origin. One of the more intriguing theories suggested it could be the classic Larian jingle.

Unfortunately, none of the guesses seemed to impress Vincke before the AMA, where he was directly asked about it. “I thought it would be easy to find. Maybe taking a closer look at the high-quality version of the trailer will help,” he hinted.

In the hours that followed, someone finally pieced it together. On Twitter, Larian’s publishing director, Michael Douse, was asked about the spectrogram mystery: “Now that we didn’t figure it out in time, what’s up with the Spectrogram?” He replied, “As I understand, somebody did.”

So, what was the answer? While Larian hasn’t handed out any metaphorical gold medals, some serious sleuthing followed Vincke’s clue to revisit the trailer. A Reddit user pointed out, “It’s the monolith at minute 2:28?” They shared a screenshot of a spectrogram derived from the Divinity reveal trailer, showing that during a brief silence, the pattern of the Hellstone appears. When compared to Vincke’s header image, it seems he shared the moment right after this easter egg.

Elsewhere on Reddit, some are speculating if this could hint at something more. “Hellstone in the trailer spectrogram at 2:28 from Swen’s tweet. Something will happen on the 28th of February? Release on 2028 February?” one user theorized.

I’d be surprised if the Hellstone easter egg wasn’t the answer Vincke was after, but whether it holds any additional clues or surprises remains to be seen. It’s exciting to see the community come together like this, and I can almost guarantee that fans will be analyzing every Larian trailer from now on, just in case.

Larian has also assured fans that Divinity won’t feature AI-generated genitals: “I can guarantee that all the genitals in the game will be manually crafted with love.”
