Baldur’s Gate 3 Rival Unveils All Classes Before Early Access Launch

The early access launch of Tactical Adventures’ Solasta 2 is just around the corner, and the developer has unveiled all six classes along with 13 subclasses that players can expect in this tactical adventure RPG, set to hit early access this March.

Solasta: Crown of the Magister was praised for its faithful representation of the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules, even if it was somewhat overshadowed by the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. With Solasta 2 transitioning to the new D&D rules introduced in 2024, it aims to keep that commitment to tactical combat intact. However, players should anticipate some variations in rules and classes, similar to the original.

Here’s a look at the six classes and their subclasses available in early access:

The Fighter class, often seen as straightforward, is a reliable choice for frontline combat. The Commander subclass focuses on battle coordination, while the Aether Warden offers a unique twist by blending martial prowess with spellcasting. New abilities inspired by the 2024 D&D Weapon Masteries will enhance the Fighter’s versatility.

For those who crave damage, the School of Ruin is the Wizard’s go-to subclass, adding powerful spells to the mix. On the other hand, the Court Mage provides a more defensive playstyle, capable of dealing damage while excelling at protecting allies.

If stealth is your game, the Shadowcaster subclass allows Rogues to apply sneak attack damage to both spells and melee strikes, adding a magical edge to their toolkit. The Scavenger subclass enhances haggling skills and grants extra slashing damage on weapon hits once per turn.

Paladins can choose the Oath of Liberation to blind foes from a distance and help allies move unseen with spells like Blur and Slip Away. Alternatively, the Oath of Judgment focuses on dealing damage, featuring abilities that restrain enemies on hit and add extra force damage.

The Sorcerer subclass Star Child brings a cosmic flair, adding extra force damage to spells when using Metamagic. With multi-classing now an option, the Mana Painter has been refined, remaining a solid choice for Sorcerers looking to deal damage, provide buffs, and recover Sorcery Points outside their base abilities.

Clerics enter early access with three distinct domains. The Life domain is essential for maximizing healing and reviving fallen allies. The Oblivion domain ensures that unconscious allies have a better chance of survival with advantage on death saving throws. In contrast, the Battle domain empowers Clerics to deal more damage while boosting allies with additional force damage.

In Solasta 2, players will form a party of four adventurers and embark on a quest on the island of Neokos, driven by family legacy. As they seek answers, they will confront the looming threat of a mysterious entity named Shadwyn, whose corruption is spreading across Neokos. The game features voice talent from Baldur’s Gate 3, including Amelia Tyler and Devora Wilde.

This new installment promises to uphold the D&D fidelity of its predecessor while allowing players to freely explore the lands of Neokos. With a wealth of class and subclass options—and the ability to fully multi-class—players will be well-prepared to tackle any challenges that arise.

Early access for Solasta 2 launches on Steam for PC on March 12.
