Bankrupt Publisher Unveils Gaming Showcase One Day After Closing RPG Studio, Union Urges Fans to Boycott Games

Nacon is stirring up excitement just a day after shutting down game studio Spiders. Xbox is rolling out more updates and showcases, and the beloved Tales of Eternia is making a comeback. Welcome to your daily Checkpoint roundup for April 30, 2026, where everyone is sharing their favorite meal prep tips. Personally, I’m all about Greek salads with sardine toast. Yes, I spotted it on Instagram, but I can’t seem to find it again.

The company, currently facing financial troubles, had previously postponed its gaming showcase due to ongoing legal challenges. Now, just 24 hours after Spiders, the studio behind GreedFall, confirmed its closure, Nacon has announced that its showcase will take place on May 7.

A union representing Spiders employees has accused Nacon of mismanaging the studio and is urging players to refrain from supporting the company financially. “We refuse to let the group responsible for Spiders’ sudden closure profit from our jobs. While we hope our games will still be enjoyed, we ask players to avoid giving their money to Nacon, as it would reward them for their actions,” the union stated.

The French labor group added, “Despite the industry’s silence on the downfall of the second-largest video game employer in France, our fight will continue after Spiders’ demise. We will do everything in our power to hold accountable those responsible for Spiders’ and Nacon’s apparent premeditated mismanagement.”

In other news, Atomfall, an intriguing post-apocalyptic open-world RPG, is set to be adapted for television. Two Brothers Pictures, known for acclaimed shows like Fleabag and The Assassin, will lead the production, with the studio heads of Atomfall involved as producers.

“Atomfall has such a unique British tone and setting, and it’s been a pleasure developing it alongside the Rebellion team,” said Two Brothers Pictures cofounders Harry and Jack Williams. “Working as two brothers with another set of brothers is particularly exciting. We can’t wait to expand this strange, unsettling story for the screen.”

Tiny Bullets, a game that debuted in 2000 and remained exclusive to Japan, follows a young boy battling his way out of a tower controlled by a powerful demon. It was one of the last titles published by Sony for the PS1, arriving after the PS2 launch. Fans have now made it playable in English for the first time.

The new Xbox Presents format, showcasing the world, story, and characters of Stranger Than Heaven, is the most stylish production I’ve ever been a part of. I can’t wait for you all to tune in on May 6!

The latest action game from the creators of Yakuza is getting a dedicated 30-minute Xbox showcase on May 6, with the title set to be revealed on October 6. Fuse Games has confirmed this with an announcement detailing pre-order options, including a $160 Collector’s Edition. A pleasant surprise is that the standard edition will be priced at $60 instead of $70.

AutoSR, which I saw demoed at GDC last month, is Microsoft’s initiative to harness AI for better performance and visual fidelity. It’s now available for Xbox Insiders to test out, along with several other features that have rolled out to all Xbox console users today.

In a fun tidbit, Lunchb0xGamez has been posting videos attempting to answer questions like, “What game is Leech playing in his padded cell prison in X-Men: The Last Stand?” The answer? Pitfall: The Lost Expedition.

That’s the third installment in Bandai Namco’s long-running JRPG series, originally released on PS1 in 2000 and known in the West as Tales of Destiny 2 in 2001.
