Batman 2 Screenwriter Hints at Extensive Notes for Game of Thrones Spin-Off Aegon’s Conquest

The screenwriter behind the upcoming Batman sequel, Mattson Tomlin, is diving deep into a new project set in the Game of Thrones universe.

He recently shared on Twitter a snapshot of two notebooks, one labeled “Conquest/Caine 24/25” and the other “Conquest/Possessor/16 Bars/The Crew,” expressing his satisfaction in completing a notebook.

“Conquest” pertains to Aegon’s Conquest, a project that’s been in the works for about two years. Initially thought to be a TV series, it was reported last month that HBO is exploring it as a potential drama series while the Warner Bros. film team is considering it as a major feature film akin to Dune.

Set a century before House of the Dragon and 200 years prior to Game of Thrones, this story will center on King Aegon I Targaryen as he conquers and unites six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros (with Dorne holding out a bit longer) and begins the long reign of the Targaryens on the Iron Throne. Aegon foresaw a looming threat to humanity from a long winter in the North, a prophecy he termed the ‘Song of Ice and Fire,’ which he believed could only be averted if a Targaryen sat on the throne.

While we await the third season of House of the Dragon later this year, which will continue the saga of the Targaryen civil war occurring a century after the Conquest, there’s another spin-off currently airing: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

This series follows the adventures of hedge knight Dunk and his young squire Egg as they pursue glory at a tournament, but not without encountering some challenges along the way. After all, this is Westeros.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is airing weekly on HBO/HBO Max and Sky Atlantic/NOW.
