Batman Part 2 Director Reveals MCU Stars Join the Superhero Sequel

Matt Reeves has dropped some exciting hints that Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are joining the cast of The Batman Part 2, marking the arrival of two major stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the DC realm.

Filming for The Batman Part 2 has kicked off, and Reeves has been sharing his enthusiasm about the project on social media. On May 14, he posted a message saying, “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome,” along with a GIF featuring Scarlett Johansson from Under the Skin. He followed that up with another post stating, “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome,” showcasing a GIF of Sebastian Stan.

While Johansson and Stan’s participation had been hinted at in various reports, DC Studios had yet to officially confirm their roles. With Reeves now acknowledging Johansson’s involvement, it raises the possibility that earlier casting rumors, including mentions of actors like Charles Dance, could also hold true.

Johansson is widely recognized for her role as Black Widow in the MCU, a character who met her end in Avengers: Endgame. With Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova taking over the mantle in the MCU, this transition to DC seems perfectly timed for Johansson. Meanwhile, Stan continues to be a part of the MCU, set to reprise his role as Bucky in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

While the buzz around this casting news is palpable, don’t expect to see Johansson and Stan in other DC films like Man of Tomorrow or Clayface. Currently, The Batman and its sequel exist in a separate universe from projects like Creature Commandos and Superman. Plus, fans will have to wait a while to see their performances, as The Batman Part 2 is slated for release on October 1, 2027.

Reeves has also teased that the film’s villain will be a unique choice, one that hasn’t been portrayed in movies before.
