Battlefield 6 Faces Criticism Over AI-Generated Artwork Amid Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Comparisons
Several high-profile games released this year have faced criticism for seemingly incorporating AI-generated assets, with titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 already in the spotlight. Now, Battlefield 6 appears to be joining the list. Players have been identifying numerous instances where artwork exhibits characteristics typical of generative AI, leading to skepticism about its authenticity.
A notable example comes from the RPGs Vs Golf Carts mode in Portal, featuring a cartoonish image of a character in a cart amidst soldiers firing rockets. This artwork stands out as it feels distinctly out of place compared to other images that utilize more traditional in-game visuals, prompting players to suspect it was created using AI.
Fans have been gathering additional examples from EA’s popular FPS, ranging from poorly designed weapons to nonsensical tags that defy logic upon closer inspection. Some guns lack triggers, while others sport an excessive number of barrels, and there are parts that appear fused or melted together. Additionally, animals like fish are depicted with extra limbs or in a chaotic, distorted manner—one eagle even has a wing facing the wrong direction. While it’s impossible to definitively confirm whether AI was responsible for these designs, players view them as shoddy and believe they tarnish the game’s reputation.
“This game was made as cheap as possible to maximize profits. It’s hollow and low effort with no love or passion,” one user expressed on a forum. Another chimed in, “Now I’m considering even booting up this game. Like this is just stupid. This game has barely any content; how dare they give us something like that?”
As of now, EA and the Battlefield studios have not commented on the allegations regarding AI usage. Updates will follow if any statements are made.
Battlefield 6 developers acknowledge that the Winter Offensive update is experiencing “unexpected behaviors” and are actively addressing the issues, emphasizing that player experience and feedback are important to them.
