Battlefield 6 Launches Major Seasonal Update Featuring Top Gun: Maverick Crossover

Top Gun is set to take flight in the gaming world. Battlefield 6 is gearing up for an exciting crossover event with the blockbuster film, coinciding with the launch of its new season and the standalone battle royale mode, Battlefield REDSEC. EA has touted this as the franchise’s most extensive seasonal update yet, akin to a Super Bowl moment for fans of high-octane entertainment with military themes.

This collaboration between EA and Paramount Games Studio will introduce iconic fighter jets like the F-18/Super Hornet and F-14 Tomcat into the game, along with characters from Top Gun: Maverick and fresh gameplay modes. Players can expect to see a trio of Maverick pilots, voiced by their original actors: Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lt. Robert “Bob” Floyd (Lewis Pullman), and Adm. Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Charles Parnell). Additionally, there will be Top Gun-themed skins and cosmetics to enhance the experience.

Miles Teller expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a huge honor to appear in a long-running franchise like Battlefield with its millions of fans, and talented people working on it. And with Top Gun, it’s like two titans meeting.”

One of the new modes, Carrier Strike, will have teams of naval, air, and ground forces battling to destroy the enemy aircraft carrier, blending the best elements of both Battlefield and Top Gun. This content will be part of the Season 4: Pacific Front update, launching on July 21. The update will also introduce a new map, Tsuru Reef, designed for naval combat, along with new vehicles like the RCB-90 Patrol Boat and the 7.7m NSW RHIB transport barge.

Players can look forward to new weapons as well, including the BROD 3 carbine for close-quarters combat, the EF88 bullpup assault rifle for mid- to long-range engagements, and the VSSM, a stealthy Designated Marksman Rifle equipped with a suppressor and subsonic ammo. There will also be new attachments for various weapons. Meanwhile, REDSEC will be adding a ranked mode, along with a comprehensive list of balance changes affecting player movement, vehicles, and more.

Battlefield 6 launched on October 10, 2025, receiving a generally positive reception for its return to the gameplay style reminiscent of Battlefield 3 and 4. It achieved the largest launch in the series’ history, selling over 7 million copies within three days. However, player feedback has been mixed, with initial approval on Steam at 76% before dropping to a “Mixed” 67% due to issues with the Battle Pass and controversial balance changes. Some players have also expressed dissatisfaction with smaller map sizes and movement mechanics reminiscent of Call of Duty. It remains to be seen if this significant upcoming update can entice former players back into the game.

A promising move forward after a few missteps.
