Bethesda Hints at Starfield “2.0” for Influencers, But Major Overhaul Unlikely

Over two years have flown by since Bethesda Game Studios launched Starfield, and aside from the Shattered Space DLC, updates have been pretty sparse. However, that might be changing soon, as rumors are buzzing online.

In August, Bethesda veteran Tim Lamb mentioned that the team was focused on enhancing the space RPG’s travel system, but concrete news has been limited since then. Recently, various content creators and influencers have begun discussing a “behind-closed-doors” event where future changes for Starfield were revealed, possibly hinting at an upcoming update or DLC.

YouTuber and streamer Luke Stephens is one of those sharing insights, elaborating on the claims in a thread of his own. He notes, “To be clear, as far as I have been able to find, there’s only one source for this alleged event. The claim is: it was a behind-closed-doors event where they showed the 2.0 version of Starfield, but no one was required to sign an NDA, despite no one else talking about it, and there are no specifics on what was shown…”

Stephens adds a word of caution, saying, “Maybe it did happen, but I would take this with a massive boulder of salt at the moment.” He follows up with, “I’ve had a few people reach out who claim to have either been present at the event or helped put it on. They are consistent in the following ways: temper expectations. Things are being improved, but from what I’m hearing, this probably isn’t a Cyberpunk 2.0 scale update.”

This likely refers to the significant Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update that dropped in 2023, which was indeed a major overhaul. Others are chiming in about the rumored news Bethesda shared with its select audience, with YouTuber JuiceHead commenting, “I’ve seen lots of talk about the Starfield ‘event’ popping up all of a sudden (not really an event).” His post continues with more intrigue.

He mentions, “What I can say is, last month Bethesda Game Studios gave me (and others) an opportunity to see some of Starfield’s future content. I can’t say more yet, but I will talk about it.” He expresses his excitement, stating, “I am excited for the future of Starfield.”

Another outlet has also reported on this mysterious reveal, reaching out to individuals with “first and second-hand knowledge” for insights, and it seems they gathered some interesting details.

The report suggests a future for Starfield that eliminates annoying loading screens during travel, featuring a flight system reminiscent of No Man’s Sky. The Creation Engine has reportedly seen significant upgrades, which could facilitate these changes. Additionally, there’s chatter about a potential Nintendo Switch 2 release, but again, this remains speculative.

Until Bethesda officially confirms any of these rumors or holds a formal reveal, all we can do is hope for news about The Elder Scrolls 6—the real RPG the studio is working on (just kidding, space fans).

Starfield’s designer has acknowledged that Bethesda’s space epic isn’t “the same caliber” as Fallout and Elder Scrolls due to its reliance on procedural generation, stating, “The planets start to feel very samey.”
