Bethesda remains committed to Starfield despite major focus on Fallout and Elder Scrolls.

In the midst of exciting updates about new Fallout titles and The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda Game Studios reassures Starfield players that their sci-fi RPG is far from over. The studio announced that “Starfield remains an important part of our future” and confirmed that additional content is on the way.

“As we enter Year 3, we’ll continue expanding the Settled Systems with new stories, targeted gameplay improvements, and additional updates, while preparing for the launch of new Starborn content next year,” Bethesda stated in a comprehensive update regarding its upcoming projects.

Bethesda also shared impressive player statistics, revealing that Starfield has attracted 17 million players since its launch in September 2023 on Windows PC and Xbox Series X. The game’s availability on Xbox Game Pass at launch certainly contributed to its rapid adoption. A PlayStation 5 port was released in April, and across all platforms, players have collectively logged “almost a billion hours to date,” according to the studio.

The studio emphasized its commitment to supporting creators using the Starfield: Creation Kit. “More than 40% of players already customize their experience through Creations, and we’ll continue investing in creators and giving players new ways to make Starfield their own,” they noted.

Despite some uncertainty surrounding Starfield due to a significant “reset” at Xbox, which includes 3,200 layoffs in Microsoft’s gaming division over the next year and has already affected Bethesda, the future looks promising. New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has encouraged Microsoft-owned studios to concentrate on the company’s major gaming franchises, including Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls. While Starfield is proving to be a success for Bethesda Game Studios and designer Todd Howard, the studio’s Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises boast a dedicated fanbase and impressive sales figures. Fallout 4 has sold 35 million copies, and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has reached 65 million copies sold, according to Bethesda’s latest data. Although Starfield may not hit those heights, Bethesda is committed to its ongoing development.

In addition to future support for Starfield, Bethesda revealed that it is in pre-production on Fallout 5 and confirmed a new Fallout game from Obsidian Entertainment, along with remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
