Big Bang Theory’s Multiverse Spin-off Promises an Excitingly Unique Experience
The latest spinoff from The Big Bang Theory takes a bold turn, mixing sci-fi elements reminiscent of Dark Matter and The Matrix with a post-apocalyptic vibe akin to The Walking Dead. And it looks like Batman’s icy foe, Mr. Freeze, makes an appearance in the first trailer!
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is a multiversal adventure series featuring Stuart Bloom, the comic book store owner played by Kevin Sussman. In this new journey, Stuart finds himself navigating through a series of fractured realities after accidentally activating a device created by Sheldon and Leonard, which triggers a multiverse catastrophe.
Stuart is joined by his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), his geologist buddy Bert (Brian Posehn), and the ever-annoying quantum physicist Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie). The first trailer showcases their wild escapades through various alternate realities, many of which are dystopian. They encounter giant moths, a zombie-infested world, and even a scenario where Stuart wakes up in a human-battery pod straight out of The Matrix. However, as the title suggests, Stuart is definitely not The One. With numerous references to DC Comics and The Matrix, it seems this spinoff will fully embrace the synergy of its parent company.
Stuart Fails to Save the Universe appears to be the most adventurous spinoff yet, diverging from the family-friendly tones of Young Sheldon and its sequel, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. While it may not delve as deeply into darkness as Apple TV’s Dark Matter, it certainly looks like it’s willing to take risks, backed by a solid VFX budget.
Like its predecessors, this new series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions, with Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady at the helm as creators, writers, and executive producers.
Mark your calendars for the premiere of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe on HBO Max on Thursday, July 23.
