Black Mirror’s Season 8 is officially in development, arriving as reality begins to mirror its themes.
Charles Brooker, the mind behind Black Mirror, has confirmed that season 8 of the acclaimed dystopian sci-fi anthology is in the pipeline, promising that it will be “more Black Mirror than ever.”
“Fortunately, Black Mirror has a future, so I can assure you it will return just as reality starts to mirror its themes. That part of my brain is already buzzing with ideas,” Brooker shared.
Currently, season 7 is basking in the glow of Golden Globe nominations, marking a first for the series in its 14-plus year run. It has been nominated for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, with actors Rashida Jones (‘Common People’) and Paul Giamatti (‘Eulogy’) also receiving nods for their performances.
As Brooker develops new episodes, he’s exploring different genres within the series, which has previously tackled everything from sharp political satire to romantic comedy, all with a uniquely relatable twist.
“It’s a helpful thought experiment when crafting a new story,” Brooker explained. “I often ponder, ‘What haven’t we explored yet, and what tone do I want to convey? … Where does this track fit on the album, and what musical direction are we heading towards?’ We’ll see. A Black Mirror hoedown is highly unlikely, though.”
So, while a cowboy musical might not be on the horizon, the possibilities are endless. As we await updates on season 8, you can revisit our comprehensive guide to every ranked Black Mirror episode.
