Details about the sequel to Black Myth: Wukong, titled Black Myth: Zhong Kui, have been scarce since its reveal at Gamescom 2025. However, Game Science has just dropped six minutes of in-engine footage that fans are interpreting as a sign that “they are cooking” – quite literally.
In celebration of the upcoming Chinese New Year, Game Science shared this footage to honor the Year of the Horse. A disclaimer at the end notes that “this content is non-canon and unrelated to the main storyline,” indicating that this is more of a showcase of the potential visual quality of the cutscenes rather than a narrative teaser.
The video features a woman preparing a feast, specifically cooking various yaoguai for what appears to be a hot pot. Some viewers in the comments have humorously suggested that this confirms “Zhong Kui is a cooking game,” and while that’s clearly not the case, the visuals are so enticing that many would likely welcome a cooking minigame.
Regardless, as Game Science points out, the video isn’t directly tied to the game, yet it has still managed to generate excitement among fans. One popular comment reads, “Ah I see. Basically they are saying they are cooking,” with many echoing similar thoughts.
“Game Science is confident enough to flex because they can. You cannot say that about a lot of devs. They are definitely cooking the game!” another user commented, while a fan on ResetEra added, “Let them cook and they did!”
There’s still no release date for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, leaving us in the dark about how long we might have to wait for the sequel. At Gamescom, even the director admitted to having “absolutely no idea” when it will launch. We’ll just have to stay tuned for updates.
