Blizzard Confirms StarCraft Will Remain Accessible to All Players
StarCraft was recently revealed at BlizzCon and is set to launch in 2030 on Xbox, with indications that it will also be available on at least one other platform.
Following the announcement, inquiries were made regarding the release details and supported platforms. Notably, a UK social media account confirmed the game for Xbox, prompting questions about why this platform was highlighted while others were not. A Blizzard representative clarified that StarCraft will not be exclusive to Xbox. When pressed for specifics on whether it would also be available on another console or just on PC, the spokesperson indicated that if any claims were made about it being Xbox-exclusive, they would need to be corrected.
This leaves us with a bit of ambiguity. The only clear takeaway is that StarCraft will be available on at least one platform beyond Xbox. Given Blizzard’s history, it’s a safe bet that PC will be one of those platforms. The majority of Blizzard’s titles over the past three decades have launched on PC, and both previous StarCraft games were specifically designed for that platform. In a recent discussion about Diablo 5, a Blizzard PR director humorously noted that if it wasn’t on PC, “we’ve got problems,” highlighting the importance of PC and Battle.net to the company. It would be quite unusual for the new StarCraft shooter to skip PC.
However, there’s a hint that StarCraft might also make its way to another console. Xbox often uses the term “Xbox-exclusive” to refer to games that are available on both Xbox and PC, which suggests a broader ecosystem. If StarCraft isn’t exclusive, it raises the possibility of it appearing on PlayStation as well, or perhaps even the next Nintendo console.
In summary, StarCraft is confirmed to be non-exclusive.
