Blizzard Explains Why Diablo 5 Is Coming to PC While StarCraft Isn’t
At BlizzCon 2026, I attended a press conference featuring several key designers behind Diablo 5. Toward the end, someone inquired about the platforms for the game, as no details had been shared during its reveal. Game director Joe Shely responded that they had no announcements to make but emphasized their desire for as many players as possible to experience Diablo 5.
Then, an unexpected moment occurred. From the back of the room, a PR representative (who I couldn’t identify from my seat) quietly interjected, “PC version.”
This prompted some chuckles, and Shely playfully retorted, “You’re not supposed to tell them!”
The PR rep shot back, “If we’re not on the PC, we’ve got problems.”
So, it seems Diablo 5 is indeed headed to PC? But why the secrecy? Why not just confirm it during BlizzCon? Even if they’re holding back on console announcements, it feels like a given that Diablo would land on PC, making it almost unnecessary to clarify.
Things get even stranger when you consider that StarCraft, which is at least a year further out than Diablo 5, also received a peculiar platform confirmation: it’s set for Xbox, as revealed through the Xbox UK X account. This information wasn’t shared elsewhere, and no one mentioned it at BlizzCon. What’s going on? Why hasn’t a PC version been confirmed for that game as well?
A new StarCraft game was REVEALED at BlizzCon’s Opening Ceremony AND it’s coming to XBOX console. This new StarCraft is an open-world sci-fi shooter set 70 years after StarCraft II in the Terran Koprulu Sector | Powered by #XBOXON
I reached out to Blizzard post-event for clarification and received this statement: “We are not announcing platforms today. We are building Diablo V for Spring 2029 and StarCraft for 2030 and will share platform details when we are ready.”
I followed up to inquire about the PC and Xbox announcements for each game and will provide updates when I hear back.
I don’t think there’s any grand conspiracy at play; it just feels odd. It’s strange to act as if Diablo 5 and StarCraft won’t be on PC, especially given the franchises’ histories. It’s also peculiar to announce an Xbox release for a game coming in 2030 but not for one arriving in 2029, unless they don’t plan to release the 2029 game on Xbox, which seems unlikely. While I didn’t expect any mention of PlayStation, considering that Diablo 1-4 are available on Sony consoles, it seems risky to leave a significant portion of the Diablo fanbase anxious about being left out in Spring 2029.
So, to put your mind at ease, Diablo 5 is definitely coming to PC. If you were worried about that, you can rest easy. I’m not sure when we’ll get more information about anything else, but I’ve asked Blizzard for updates on that as well.
