Blizzard Hints at a Possible New StarCraft Game Before BlizzCon

After nearly ten years of silence, StarCraft might be making a comeback. Recent reports suggest that Blizzard Entertainment is reviving the iconic series with assistance from a Korean partner, sparking excitement among fans. With BlizzCon 2026 just around the corner, players are eagerly searching for hints about a new StarCraft project.

On Thursday, fans uncovered hidden messages on the official StarCraft website, hinting at a potential sequel to StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.

The website has retained its look since the launch of StarCraft Remastered in 2017, but visitors may notice some strange visual glitches. While these effects don’t provide clear insights into a possible StarCraft 3 or the rumored shooter set in the StarCraft universe, the underlying code reveals more intriguing details.

Dedicated fans have discovered a series of cryptic messages embedded in the website’s code. By checking the JavaScript console, they found several messages, some encoded in binary and others in plain text.

Two messages suggest an unknown individual attempting to access a Terran Dominion server:

>>Run systems check.

>INVALID CREDENTIALS

>>Username: 2560037-DA

>>Password: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

>ERROR

>USER FLAGGED

>CONTACT DOMINION SERVICE DESK IMMEDIATELY

>>Requesting information on special order 176

>INVALID CREDENTIALS

>UNABLE TO COMPLY

>>Who is involved with special order 176?

>INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE

Other hidden messages reference elements from the series lore, mentioning a Terran Banshee transport ship, the frontier world of Roxara, and a Dominion Theta Squadron. One message even includes a date: the year 2575, suggesting events occurring about 70 years after StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void.

Here’s a more detailed message:

Other messages appear to be more routine, discussing the tracking of unidentified lifeforms and the medical status of two redacted patients. However, all the findings so far seem to focus solely on the Terran faction.

Reports indicate that Blizzard is working on a StarCraft shooter, led by former Far Cry producer Dan Hay, who joined the company in 2022. In 2024, Blizzard hinted at an “open-world shooter game” through a job listing, which has yet to be officially announced. If this is indeed a StarCraft title, more details are likely to emerge soon, especially with BlizzCon returning after a three-year break on September 12.

The StarCraft franchise first launched in March 1998 with Blizzard’s original real-time strategy game, followed by the expansion StarCraft: Brood War in December. It took another 12 years for the sequel, StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty, to arrive, which was followed by two expansions: Heart of the Swarm in 2013 and Legacy of the Void in 2015. Since the release of StarCraft: Remastered in 2017, the series has been largely inactive.

Blizzard has attempted various spinoff projects over the years, including the well-known third-person shooter StarCraft: Ghost and a shooter codenamed “Ares.”
