Blizzard is stepping up for Overwatch players by offering in-game compensation after bugs hindered some from completing challenges during the Talon x Overwatch event. To make up for lost time, the requirements for other tasks will also be eased.
According to a statement on Blizzard’s forums, anyone who completed at least one event challenge in the first week will automatically receive in-game rewards. This includes all rewards from both faction base passes and two prestige passes, as many players faced issues switching factions to complete both.
The rewards consist of 14 lootboxes, voice lines for Sojourn and Emre, Overwatch and Talon titles, an Overwatch weapon charm, and the Emre Namecard. Additionally, the completion requirement for Legendary Faction Titles will be reduced by one. So, if a challenge required you to finish eight Overwatch passes, you now only need to complete seven.
If you haven’t seen your lootboxes yet, there’s no need to worry. The in-game gifts will be distributed gradually to all eligible accounts, so you might just need to be patient. The distribution is automatic, so if you’re eligible, you don’t need to take any action.
Overwatch recently underwent a rebranding with the Talon x Overwatch event marking its first major comeback. Dropping the “2” seems to have paid off, as the game doubled its previous peak on Steam, with 165,000 players joining the action on that platform alone.
It’s unfortunate that a game that has just started to regain its footing would face such significant server issues, but hopefully, the legendary lootboxes will help retain players who might otherwise be ready to walk away.
Blizzard has also introduced some intriguing lore about Overwatch’s Jetpack Cat, leading many to speculate: “No ordinary cat could operate machinery like that!”
