Blizzard Polls Players on Potential New Classes for WoW, Including Demon Hunter, Witch, Tinker, and Bard
Blizzard seems to be exploring the possibility of introducing several new classes to World of Warcraft: Forever, including some that players have been eagerly anticipating for years but have yet to see in any iteration of the game, based on reports from players about a recent survey.
Numerous players have mentioned receiving a survey prompt in the Battle.net launcher over the past week. While sharing screenshots of the survey was prohibited, which leaves us without visual evidence, many players have corroborated the same list of classes included in the survey. Additionally, one player has shared what they claim are text descriptions of each new class from the survey, which I’ve summarized below:
If this list is genuine, it’s impressive. Classes like Demon Hunter, Death Knight, and Monk already exist in retail World of Warcraft, introduced in various expansions, but their implementation in Forever could differ significantly. The other classes mentioned would be entirely new to the MMORPG, even if some are inspired by other Warcraft games and lore (like Wardens and Tinkers). It’s tempting to wish for all of these to be added, shaking up the game, but such a drastic overhaul might be too much for WoW to manage at once.
Another interesting aspect is that several of these classes are categorized as “support,” a role that doesn’t currently exist in WoW Classic or WoW: Forever. Blizzard attempted to introduce a support class in retail WoW with one of the Evoker’s specializations, but it hasn’t been very effective since the game isn’t balanced around having that kind of role in a party. Starting fresh with Classic and incorporating multiple support specs could be a better way to experiment with this concept and allow players to explore different group dynamics.
That said, we still don’t know how legitimate or accurate the survey is, despite many players claiming to have seen it. And if it is real, we can only speculate on how committed Blizzard is to adding new classes; they might review the survey results and decide against it altogether.
Personally, I’m hoping they introduce at least a few of these fresh classes, especially the more unconventional ones like Tinker and San’layn. I’m not as keen on seeing reimagined versions of classes already available in retail or slight variations of existing ones, like Necromancer. Give me Bard, Blizzard! Let me serenade my allies to victory! I’ve been waiting for this moment for years!
