Borderlands 4’s Big Switch 2 Launch Is Currently Delayed

Borderlands 4 was anticipated to be a major title for the Nintendo Switch 2’s fall 2025 lineup, but its release has now been indefinitely postponed as developers work to resolve performance issues with the PC version. Fans were hopeful for an early 2026 launch, but the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 is officially on hold.

“We made the tough choice to pause development on that version,” a spokesperson stated. “Our priority is to ensure we deliver quality post-launch content while we continue to optimize the game. We’re maintaining close collaboration with Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ and ‘WWE 2K26’ coming to Switch 2, and we’re excited about expanding our titles on that platform in the future.”

What’s particularly surprising about this last-minute change is that Borderlands 4 was already showcased running on the Switch 2 at events like PAX West last summer. Reactions were mixed; some players found it surprisingly impressive, while others noted significant performance issues, even in docked mode.

To be frank:

Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2 struggled to maintain 30fps with just four enemies on screen in docked mode. It had severe input lag, and the render resolution appeared to be significantly reduced.

I might dive deeper into this in a video soon.
