Call of Duty Set to Launch on Switch Soon

Microsoft is dedicated to bringing Call of Duty to the Nintendo Switch, with potential plans for a release as early as next year. According to reporter Jez Corden, “the first CoD Switch version is nearly done,” and he mentioned that the game could launch “in a few months.” However, he also noted that while the release might not be “close,” it is definitely “on the way” for a 2026 debut. Corden highlighted that the game is “hitting milestones,” indicating progress in its development.

It’s still unclear whether this upcoming Call of Duty title for Switch will be a port of an existing game, such as Black Ops 7 or Warzone, or if it will be an entirely new entry. Back in 2022, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, acknowledged that there was “definitely” work needed to get Call of Duty functioning on the Switch. Since then, Nintendo has introduced the more powerful Switch 2. Amid the FTC vs. Microsoft legal proceedings in 2023, Microsoft announced a “binding 10-year legal agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo players,” promising to release the game on Nintendo platforms “the same day as Xbox, with full features and content parity.”

In June 2025, an Activision spokesperson reiterated their commitment to bringing the Call of Duty franchise to Switch, stating that both Microsoft and Activision were collaborating to make it happen, although no specific release window was provided. If a Call of Duty game is indeed on the horizon for Switch, it might be unveiled during the January 2026 Xbox Developer Direct. Notably, Activision has not released a Call of Duty title on Nintendo platforms for over a decade, with the last being a port of Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Wii U in 2013. The franchise has had a unique and tumultuous history on Nintendo systems. Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, new Call of Duty games have consistently launched on PlayStation simultaneously with their Xbox and PC counterparts.
