Call of Duty: Warzone to End Service on PS4 and Xbox One
Call of Duty: Warzone, the expansive free-to-play battle royale experience, is set to bid farewell to last-gen consoles. With the recent reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, it was confirmed that Warzone will no longer be accessible on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year.
This decision to end support for Warzone on these platforms isn’t unexpected for players. Modern Warfare 4 is also moving away from last-gen hardware, as this year’s main installment will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
Warzone will continue to thrive on current-gen systems. Starting with season 1 of Modern Warfare 4, Warzone will seamlessly integrate content and seasonal progression from Modern Warfare 4, creating a unified experience between the two titles, according to a statement from the Call of Duty team.
Beginning June 4, Warzone will no longer be available for new downloads on PS4 and Xbox One, but existing players can keep enjoying the game until the launch of MW4 season 1. On June 25, the in-game store for Warzone on these platforms will be taken down. Players will still have the opportunity to progress through free Battle Pass tiers, including unlocking new weapons in the remaining Black Ops 7 seasons.
Originally launched in 2020, Warzone quickly became a staple in the Call of Duty franchise. The initial version was retired in 2023 following the debut of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. The 2022 iteration eventually dropped the “2.0” label and is now simply known as Call of Duty: Warzone.
The series is making a strong comeback.
