Capcom Addresses Feedback on Onimusha Demo’s Difficulty After 1 Million Downloads
A free demo for Onimusha: Way of the Sword has just launched on consoles and Steam, allowing players to dive into an early tutorial segment of this action-packed title. Gamers can experience the skills of swordsman Miyamoto Musashi and get a feel for the combat in this revival of a classic Capcom series. However, since its release, some players have voiced concerns that the demo is too easy, raising fears about the overall difficulty of the full game. Capcom has addressed these worries, assuring fans that the final product will offer a greater challenge.
“We’ve received feedback that the demo felt too easy for some players. It’s important to note that the demo is just a glimpse of the early story,” said Akihito Kadowaki, the producer of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, in a recent video message. “We wanted you to experience a range of Musashi’s abilities, so we equipped him with some late-game skills. This may have led to a perception of reduced challenge. Rest assured, the bosses and regular Genma in the final game will provide a tougher fight.”
Many players have pointed out that the issue lies more with enemy aggression, as they can easily spam basic attacks. One player even created a video suggesting that the game doesn’t encourage learning boss mechanics due to this simplicity. “Don’t cater to the casuals, Capcom. Be bold and give us a harder game from the start. It doesn’t need to be as tough as FromSoftware titles, but it should be more challenging than the demo, which feels like a kids’ game,” commented one player on Steam.
While the straightforward combat in the demo has left some fans wanting more, it has successfully attracted newcomers to the Onimusha series, with Capcom reporting over 1 million downloads of the demo. Not every player is dissatisfied with the current difficulty level, though. “I’m curious to see how the difficulty evolves,” one user shared on Reddit. “I’d personally like a bit more challenge, but I think they’re doing a good job balancing it so that you can’t just mindlessly spam through every encounter, while still keeping it accessible for the average gamer during tougher moments.”
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set to release on September 25, joining the crowded lineup of games this year.
