Capcom highlights Uncle Leon’s unique blend of dry humor and subtle sarcasm in Resident Evil Requiem.

Last night, Capcom finally unveiled the much-anticipated return of rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy as a main character in Resident Evil Requiem, alongside Grace Ashcroft. While Leon may not be a rookie anymore, the developers believe that his experience only adds to his appeal.

The new trailer highlights that Leon and Grace will offer distinct gameplay experiences. Director Akifumi Nakanishi shared in an interview that “Grace’s gameplay is inspired by Resident Evil 2,” while “Leon’s gameplay incorporates martial arts and melee combat, drawing from Resident Evil 4.”

Nakanishi describes Grace as “the biggest scaredy-cat in Resident Evil history,” contrasting her with Leon, who is portrayed as a “seasoned veteran.” The praise for Leon continues, with Nakanishi noting, “One thing’s for sure, Leon isn’t just handsome; he has a cool personality too. He’s the type who doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice himself to save others, but he’s not arrogant about it, and he has a passionate inner self. I hope you’ll also look forward to the dry wit and subtle sarcasm that only an older guy can bring.”

It seems like Capcom has a favorite in this duo. The “hot uncle” vibes from the new Leon have certainly attracted a lot of fans, and even the original Resident Evil 2 director has expressed his best wishes for Leon as he ages gracefully.

Another exciting detail is Capcom’s collaboration with Porsche, which will feature Leon driving a custom Cayenne Turbo GT in the game. Now that’s a midlife crisis that fits Leon’s legendary status.

These are the best Resident Evil games to enjoy while waiting for Requiem’s release next year.
