Capcom Reports 93% of Game Sales Are Digital, Anticipates Further Growth
Capcom has just released its latest earnings report, revealing a significant shift in its business model. The company is now primarily focused on PC gaming, with a staggering 93 percent of its total game sales coming from digital platforms. This trend is expected to continue, pushing Capcom closer to a fully digital future in the coming year.
On May 13, Capcom detailed its financial performance for the fiscal year running from March 2025 to March 2026, and the results are largely positive. Thanks to new titles like Resident Evil Requiem and sustained interest in older hits like Monster Hunter Wilds, the company has set new records in all profit categories for the ninth consecutive year. A major contributor to this success is the rise of digital sales, particularly through platforms like Steam.
According to the digital contents section of its FY2026 report, 93 percent of Capcom’s game sales over the past year were digital, up from 90 percent in 2024 and 2025. Back in 2022, digital sales accounted for just 75 percent of total sales. This growth in digital sales over the past few years is quite remarkable.
A key factor driving this increase is Capcom’s ongoing commitment to PC gaming. In 2022, only 33 percent of its sales were on PC, but by fiscal 2026, that figure has jumped to 54.5 percent. Now, more than half of Capcom’s sales are on PC, and the company anticipates further growth in this area as console sales plateau and the market for dedicated gaming machines slows down.
This trend is reflected in Capcom’s prediction that by this time next year, 95.5 percent of its game sales will be digital. The company views PC as a gateway to emerging markets and a growing base of gamers beyond just console players.
However, this doesn’t mean that physical games are disappearing from Capcom’s lineup. While they accounted for only seven percent of total sales in the last year, that still translates to over 4 million physical copies sold worldwide. As we look ahead, it’s likely that Capcom and other companies will continue to analyze the viability of physical games. Will there come a time when Capcom stops producing physical copies altogether? Probably not in the near future. But we may see a trend where fewer physical games are released, with some titles skipping physical formats entirely. Change is definitely on the horizon.
