Captain Toad Gets His First Amiibo with the Release of Super Mario Bros Wonder Switch 2 Edition

We’re just getting started in 2026, and already new amiibo are on the horizon. As a proud owner of over 100 figures, I’m all in, especially since the upcoming Super Mario Wonder amiibo are some of the cutest yet.

These new Switch 2 accessories are set to drop on March 26, featuring collectibles like Elephant Mario, who’s hilariously trying to wiggle his way out of a warp pipe, along with the charming Poplin & Prince Florian duo, and Captain Toad, making his amiibo debut.

Three new amiibo figures will be available on March 26:
– Elephant Mario
– Captain Toad & Talking Flower
– Poplin & Prince Florian

You can tap any of these in the Super Mario Bros. Wonder or Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park games to unlock power-up items.

Revealed through the Nintendo Today app and the official Nintendo of America social media, these amiibo are undeniably adorable. I’ve already secured my pre-orders for the Super Mario Galaxy amiibo later this year, but Captain Toad’s first pump pose is simply irresistible. I might have to dip into my savings to grab him and the rest of the set as soon as pre-orders open. It’s about time Captain Toad got his own amiibo, especially considering it’s been 12 years since Captain Toad Treasure Tracker launched on the Wii U in 2014, and he’s never had an amiibo until now.

But it’s not just Toad that has me excited for these collectibles. Elephant Mario is one of the funniest characters represented in these NFC toys. In his elephant form, he’s hilariously trying to squeeze out of the warp pipe, capturing a moment that’s all too relatable. Trust me, I feel your struggle, Mario, every time I try to fit into skinny jeans.

Nintendo mentioned on social media that tapping Elephant Mario, Poplin & Prince Florian, and Captain Toad & Talking Flower on the right Switch 2 Joy-Con will grant you power-up items in courses.

While they didn’t share any pricing details during the brief Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park video, they did confirm that these amiibo will work with both the upcoming Switch 2 Edition of the game and the original Super Mario Bros. Wonder for those sticking with the classic handheld.

This is a great option for collectors who want to save by not upgrading to the new version or its Switch 2 Upgrade Pack. However, considering the Super Mario Galaxy amiibo pre-orders were priced at $39.99, I expect these new figures will also come with a decent price tag once pre-orders go live.

While we wait for the Super Mario Bros. Wonder amiibo pre-orders to open, you can snag Talking Flower as a standalone figure for $34.99 at Nintendo US if you want to enjoy his chatter outside the game.
