Carrie Seeks Friendship in Latest Trailer Release
Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, marking his fourth venture into King’s universe, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime on October 7th. The recently released trailer at Comic-Con 2026 doesn’t reveal many surprises; it hits all the familiar beats of the original story while clearly updating it for contemporary audiences.
Flanagan’s interpretation will address modern teenage issues such as active shooter drills and social media bullying. He brought high school students into the writing process, drawing from their real-life experiences to shape the narrative. He noted, “They shared shocking one-off situations or constant treatment and microaggressions that don’t always present as targeted harassment. [We will explore] the cruelty in today’s world and how the internet has encouraged, rewarded, and amplified it. This is tough for adults, but even more so for teenagers.”
While Brian De Palma’s 1976 version of Carrie remains a classic, featuring a standout performance by Sissy Spacek, it’s worth noting that Summer H. Howell, who was 21 during filming, may resonate more authentically as a high school student compared to Spacek, who was 26 at the time.
