CD Projekt Red unveils first in-depth glimpse of the upcoming Witcher game.

Gamescom is buzzing, and it’s been an exciting time for fans of The Witcher. During the Gamescom Opening Night Live, CD Projekt Red revealed that a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to launch next month, just ahead of the new expansion, Songs of the Past. On the following day, the studio showcased over 15 minutes of gameplay from the DLC.

In the Songs of the Past expansion, players once again step into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia as he delves into a sinister mystery in the rural town of Letten, where Dandelion appears to be in yet another predicament. The gameplay footage kicks off with Geralt on a quest to locate a friend he lost track of during a party. As he rides through the vibrant countryside and picturesque villas, it’s a stark contrast to the often gloomy swamps and marshes of the base game. However, as night falls, it becomes evident that Letten has a dual nature: its cheerful facade conceals a deeper darkness.

Geralt also faces off against various monsters in the gameplay. While it’s tough to glean too much without getting hands-on, we catch a glimpse of Geralt wielding a new weapon—the chain. This tool allows him to pull enemies in for a quick stab, reminiscent of Scorpion’s iconic move. It seems this weapon will operate similarly to the crossbow, slowing down time as you prepare your attack.

The standout takeaway from the extended footage and the initial trailer is the stark contrast of Letten, which transforms from a charming vacation spot by day to a gothic nightmare by night. We’ll see how well CD Projekt Red balances this duality when Songs of the Past drops next year.

This upcoming expansion will take advantage of the enhancements made for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt — Remastered. This updated version of the beloved 2015 RPG is set to release on September 29 and will be free for existing owners. It boasts a host of improvements, including enhanced graphics, revamped combat mechanics, a reworked skill system, and much more.

Dandelion’s in trouble again.
