CDPR Confirms Fixes Coming for The Witcher 3 Remastered on PS5
The Witcher franchise is gearing up for an exciting few years, but it’s already faced some challenges. The recent remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has left many players, especially on PlayStation 5, grappling with performance issues. Reports on Reddit highlight problems like dropped frames, screen tearing, audio glitches, crashes, and environmental flickering.
These issues appear to be hit or miss; some players enjoy a smooth experience, while others find the game nearly unplayable due to frequent crashes.
On Windows PC, the situation is somewhat better, though not without its own setbacks. Many gamers have encountered significant performance drops linked to Ray Tracing and Nvidia Hairworks, leading to frustration as their systems struggle to maintain a steady framerate. This has resulted in a surge of negative reviews on Steam, with recent ratings sitting at 79% positive, a stark contrast to the overall average of 96%. Despite this, the remaster still managed to attract nearly 140,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch. In response, the developers quickly released a couple of patches to tackle graphical glitches, save file issues, and audio bugs.
Fortunately, it looks like the developers are committed to resolving the PS5 issues to align it more closely with the PC experience. On social media, they outlined plans to address various problems, with performance issues on PS5 being a top priority. They also aim to implement additional visual tweaks, fix My Rewards and Twitch Drops, enhance voiceover audio on consoles, and add Ukrainian localization for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Furthermore, there are plans to expand mod support across all platforms with the help of Mod.io. While no specific date for the upcoming patch has been announced, it seems likely that fixes will arrive sooner than those seen after the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077.
The remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released to set the stage for the upcoming DLC, Songs of the Past. This major expansion is expected to rival the game’s previous expansions from 2015 and 2016, which offered 15 to 30 hours of gameplay. Songs of the Past will follow Geralt as he delves into a dark mystery in Dandelion’s hometown of Letten, with a release slated for 2027. Following this, the next mainline entry, The Witcher 4, is planned for 2028, featuring Geralt’s adoptive daughter, Ciri, as the protagonist.
The voiceover issues are indeed being addressed.
