During last night’s Super Bowl LX, The Pokemon Company made a splash at one of the biggest marketing events of the year, showcasing celebrities’ favorite Pokémon.

Celebrating its impressive 30th anniversary, Pokémon took a page from its 20th-anniversary playbook with a spot during the Super Bowl. However, unlike other ads, The Pokemon Company wasn’t pushing any products, much to the disappointment of fans hoping for a sneak peek at Generation 10.

Instead, the Super Bowl spot highlighted which Pokémon are favorites among various celebrities, including pop icon Lady Gaga, host Trevor Noah, K-pop star Jisoo, F1 driver Charles Leclerc, actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, rapper Young Miko, and footballer Lamine Yamal.

Seeing Lady Gaga perform the Jigglypuff song was a surprise, but the real buzz online came from Lamine Yamal’s unexpected choice of Zygarde as his favorite Pokémon. With over 1,000 Pokémon to choose from, Zygarde? Really?

“Bro’s fav mon is Zygarde complete, what a monster,” one fan joked.

“Bruh… no one’s favorite Pokémon is Zygarde… actually hilarious,” another chimed in.

“So I stayed up until 3am just to find out that Zygarde is Lamine Yamal’s favorite Pokémon,” a third commented.

While it’s unlikely anyone was genuinely expecting a full Generation 10 reveal at a sporting event, it’s amusing that The Pokemon Company’s anniversary spot didn’t even lean into nostalgia with references to classic games, anime, or trading cards. At least we learned that Jisoo’s favorite Pokémon is Eevee!

Though The Pokemon Company is keeping tight-lipped about the next mainline games, last year’s rumored mega leak mentioned something called Pokémon Winds and Waves, speculated to be Generation 10. However, all details about the project, including its supposed budget, should be taken with caution.

For now, check out the best Pokémon games ranked from worst to best.
