Certain Steam Controller orders could be delayed until 2027.

While gamers eagerly await updates on the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, Valve continues to offer one highly sought-after piece of hardware: the Steam Controller. However, with demand far outstripping supply for this new PC gamepad, Valve has admitted that it’s having difficulty keeping up and may not fulfill some reservations until 2027.

Recently, Valve announced that customers will now see estimated shipping times for their Steam Controller reservations. “We have no plans to stop making Steam Controller. But as we look at the current demand compared to how many we know we can make by the end of the year, we want to manage expectations as much as we can with regards to when folks can expect to receive their order,” Valve stated in a post.

The updated reservation system now provides three estimated shipping windows. Valve has indicated that the 2027 timeframe is not set in stone, and there’s a possibility that some customers could receive their controllers sooner. When we attempted to reserve a Steam Controller, the shipping window displayed was “2027,” highlighting the backlog of orders.

Launched in May for $99, the Steam Controller quickly sold out, as Valve underestimated the demand for this new device. In response, the company opened a new reservation system to accommodate restocks. Although the controller isn’t affected by fluctuating RAM prices, rising costs of printed circuit boards due to geopolitical tensions are still a concern. Despite the challenges in the tech landscape, the Steam Controller remains a robust piece of hardware.

Valve’s latest iteration is a perfect fit for the Steam ecosystem, but don’t expect to use it outside of that environment.
