Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc Takes Top Spot as Last Year’s Most-Acclaimed Film on Letterboxd

Letterboxd has finally unveiled its own Year in Review for 2025, and it features an unexpected anime hit at the top of one of its most notable lists.

The title of Highest Rated movie of the past year, based on 700 million votes from Letterboxd users, goes to Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.

With an impressive average rating of 4.4, this anime adaptation of the manga’s Bomb Girl arc follows protagonist Denji as he navigates a budding relationship with a new girl. However, his love interest, Reze, is hiding a dangerous secret…

Chainsaw Man outperformed several Oscar contenders, including One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Sinners, to claim the top position. You can check out the complete top 10 list below.

The English and Japanese voice actors for Denji, along with much of the main English dub cast, expressed their gratitude to voters, with Reze’s voice actress, Alexis Tipton, calling it a “dream come true.”

In light of Reze Arc’s success, it’s been announced that Chainsaw Man season 2 is in development, set to adapt the International Assassins arc, where Denji finds himself pursued by a roster of elite hitmen from around the world.

While that may be a bit of a wait, the current winter anime lineup should keep you entertained. Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 is airing new episodes weekly, and both Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 and Oshi no Ko season 3 are premiering this week.
