ChatGPT Mobile App Now Features OpenAI’s Codex Integration
OpenAI is set to enable users to access Codex, its desktop AI tool capable of writing code and managing applications on your computer, directly through the ChatGPT app on mobile devices.
In response to the rising popularity of competing tools, OpenAI has been rapidly adapting its strategy. This includes scaling back on less critical projects, such as the Sora video-generation tool, to concentrate on expanding its enterprise offerings. A significant part of this initiative is the recent major update for Codex, which now allows it to operate applications on macOS, marking a key advancement in its goal to create a comprehensive desktop “superapp.”
With Codex integrated into the ChatGPT mobile app, users can leverage their phones to instruct Codex on their computer to tackle various tasks. This functionality allows you to manage all your threads, review outputs, approve commands, switch models, or initiate new projects directly from your phone. Your files, credentials, permissions, and local configurations remain secure on the machine running Codex, while updates are sent back to your phone in real time, including screenshots, terminal outputs, diffs, test results, and approvals.
The feature is currently being rolled out as a preview on both iOS and Android for all ChatGPT plans, including the free and more budget-friendly options.
