Check Out the First English Trailer for Yoko Taro’s Exciting New Evangelion Series!

A fresh English trailer for Yoko Taro’s upcoming series, simply titled Evangelion, has surfaced online following its reveal at CloverWorks’s Anime Expo 2026 panel.

The series will be helmed by Tôko Yatabe, known for his work on Mob Psycho 100, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, and Weathering with You, alongside Kazuya Tsurumaki, who contributed to the Evangelion films. The soundtrack will be crafted by Keiichi Okabe, a long-time collaborator with Taro from the NieR series.

Yoko Taro will take charge of the screenplay, while animation will be a joint effort between CloverWorks and Studio Khara, the studio behind the last three Evangelion movies.

Beyond this, details about Evangelion remain scarce. This marks the second announcement for the series, with this being the first time an official English trailer has been released since the initial reveal in February.

Fans are buzzing with excitement, yet there’s a sense of confusion regarding the series’ purpose, especially since the final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, seemed to wrap up the story quite conclusively.

Regardless, the project is intriguing, particularly since Yoko Taro has previously cited Neon Genesis Evangelion as a major influence on NieR. In a past interview, when asked about his inspiration for NieR, Taro simply stated, “Definitely Evangelion. But then, everything I make is influenced by Evangelion.”

It seems this influence will continue with his new Evangelion project. While there’s no release date yet, it’s likely we won’t see it before the end of 2027.
