Chilling First Trailer for New Horror Film Starring Deadpool and Wolverine Blends Elements of Death Note and Talk to Me

X-Men’s Dafne Keen and Yellowjackets’ Sophie Nelisse are set to battle an ancient curse in the chilling first trailer for the new horror flick, Whistle.

In just two minutes of footage, the film channels vibes reminiscent of Death Note mixed with Talk to Me, and even throws in a dash of Final Destination – and it’s definitely caught our attention.

Directed by Corin Hardy (known for The Nun and The Hallow), the story follows a group of misfit students who get more than they bargained for when a mysterious new girl arrives at their school, introducing them to her supposedly dead-summoning Aztec whistle. Talk about an unconventional way to make friends!

After one of the group is dared to blow into the whistle, they soon find themselves being picked off one by one, discovering that the markings on the instrument ominously translate to “summonyourdeath.” If the trailer is any indication, each demise is more gruesome than the last. We witness a kid being chased through an amusement park by a grotesque ghoul, while another meets a fiery end. It’s no wonder that one outlet describes it as “no-holds-barred horror” and another claims it “goes for the jugular.”

Fangoria has labeled it “thrilling” and “gnarly.” In short, we’re eager to see what Hardy and writer Owen Egerton (Mercy Black) have in store for horror enthusiasts.

The cast also features Sky Yang (Rebel Moon), Jhaleil Swaby (The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping), Ali Skovbye (Firefly Lane), Percy Hynes White (Wednesday), Game of Thrones’ Michelle Fairley, and Nick Frost. Whistle is set to hit theaters on February 6.
