Chris Pratt Confirms Star-Lord Will Return to the MCU

We haven’t seen Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2023, when James Gunn wrapped up the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. The conclusion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked a significant shift for Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill), as he returned to Earth, found new meaning in life, and embraced the simple joys of Terran cereal while considering a side gig in landscaping.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 teased that “The legendary Star-Lord will return.” Fast forward a few years, and Pratt confirms that plans are in motion to bring back at least one of the Guardians.

In a recent chat on a podcast, Pratt elaborated on his earlier remarks about Star-Lord’s return to the MCU. “I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito],” he shared, “and there have been ongoing discussions about how we fulfill that promise, along with concrete steps taken to ensure it happens. So yes, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is super exciting, but I can’t disclose when that will be. He’s not going anywhere.”

Previously, Pratt hinted that he has an idea of how Marvel Studios plans to utilize him in a future project, but he remained tight-lipped about whether he would appear in the upcoming Avengers films: Doomsday and Secret Wars. When asked if he might lead a new Guardians team without Gunn, Pratt was non-committal.

“Everything is fluid, right?” he noted. “Marvel tends to take things one step at a time. I’m open to whatever they want me to do — and I will. I also have a strong vision for what I want [Star-Lord] to do, and I think it’s fantastic. I’m eager to contribute to their plans for the next decade of storytelling, and I have a solid idea of how I can be a part of that.”

Pratt first donned the Star-Lord mantle in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and reprised the role in two sequels and the Disney Plus special, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. He also made appearances in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and had a cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder.

While Star-Lord is currently back on Earth, the multiverse antics teased in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars mean anything is possible. The cast for Doomsday has been officially announced, but directors Joe and Anthony Russo have hinted at some surprise reveals still to come.

Pratt’s character could also make a return in the newly announced Nova movie, which is set to feature the Richard Rider version of the character. Star-Lord had a friendly rapport with the Nova Corps in the Guardians franchise; a buddy space-cop adventure with Pratt, John C. Reilly’s Rhomann Dey, and Richard Rider sounds like a blast.

Pratt’s latest project, season 2 of the Prime Video series The Terminal List, premiered earlier this week.
