Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey boasts a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Samantha Morton, alongside Zendaya and Charlize Theron. They are joined by John Leguizamo, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Elliot Page, and Benny Safdie.
Nolan’s take on this classic tale has not only been a box office triumph—ranking as the second-highest-grossing film of 2026, just behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day—but it has also garnered critical acclaim. One review described The Odyssey as “one of the most epic and beautiful films of all time.”
The review highlighted Nolan “at the height of his power,” utilizing every skill and technique to craft a narrative that is both awe-inspiring and refreshingly clear. With a sprawling ensemble cast, stunning special effects, and a masterful score from Ludwig Göransson, The Odyssey is portrayed as Nolan’s most refined work. It’s likened to a condensed version of a Lord of the Rings trilogy, a meticulous homage to a cherished story told with a perfect blend of fidelity and creative freedom, making it both timely and timeless.
The adventures of Odysseus continue even after he finally reaches Ithaca.
