Classic Cartoon Network Flash Games, Including Powerpuff Girls and Samurai Jack, Make a Comeback!
There was a time when the internet was a quirky playground, not just a jumble of algorithms and a handful of apps. If you long for those days, you’re in luck! You can take a nostalgic trip back to that era with some classic Cartoon Network web games that have recently been revived for easy play in your browser, even after the demise of Flash.
Recently highlighted by Retro Tech Dreams, the Web Design Museum has uploaded 44 digitally preserved Cartoon Network web games. These gems, released between 2001 and 2015, span a variety of genres, including puzzles, action, and light platforming. You’ll encounter beloved characters like Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry, along with some later Flash titles featuring Sonic and the Annoying Orange.
Getting into these games is a breeze—just click on them. Unlike previous efforts to archive old Flash games, these Cartoon Network classics don’t need any additional downloads or software. Simply open them up, skip the ads, and dive into whatever mini-game sparks your nostalgia. For me, it was all about Food Bash and Ed, Edd & Eddy’s Spin Stadium.
Don’t expect groundbreaking experiences from this collection; these games were created quickly and on tight budgets to entertain kids online between their favorite cartoon shows. However, they do bring back memories of my childhood, and judging by the comments on Retro Tech’s Twitter post, I’m not the only one who spent way too much time clicking away at these cartoon characters in browser games.
Part of me feels a twinge of sadness about that. Yet, I also cherish the time I spent exploring a more innocent, quirky internet that wasn’t driven by algorithms. Sure, it was slower and less polished, but it didn’t fry my brain, and search results were genuinely helpful. It’s a different, better era of the internet that feels as lost as Flash and the fun sites it once powered.
