Co-op Retro Anime Game Set to Launch on Nintendo Switch 2

Fans of chaotic co-op gaming are in for a treat with the upcoming release of Shapefarm’s Orbitals, set to launch on September 3 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. This exciting announcement was made during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation.

The latest trailer highlights the game’s cooperative gameplay, where players will need to collaborate to navigate levels and tackle rhythm minigames. Orbitals supports local play on two separate Nintendo Switch 2 consoles through GameShare, and the trailer even demonstrates gameplay on the original Nintendo Switch via the same feature.

In Orbitals, you and your partner take on the roles of space explorers navigating a cosmic storm to rescue your home space station. The co-op mechanics are reminiscent of Hazelight’s titles like It Takes Two and Split Fiction, a connection that director Jakob Lundgren acknowledges. He aims to incorporate similar design and cooperative philosophies while ensuring Orbitals carves out its own unique identity. “I’m trying to bring a lot of the same design and co-op philosophies, while ensuring it has its own identity and feels like a fresh experience,” he shared.

First unveiled at The Game Awards last year, Orbitals quickly became a title to watch for 2026. It made a memorable appearance at February’s Nintendo Switch 2 Partner Showcase, but fans had to wait until now for a confirmed release date.

Get ready to grab your Joy-Cons and dive into Orbitals on September 3. What a refreshing yet nostalgic experience awaits!
