Confirmed Release Date for R-Rated Director’s Cut of The X-Files Movie
Fans of The X-Files have been eagerly anticipating the return of 2008’s I Want to Believe, and the wait is nearly over. Disney has revealed that The X-Files: I Want to Vrach Frankenshteyn will hit screens on August 14. This revamped title gives a hint at the fresh direction the film will take in its reimagined version.
Series creator and director Chris Carter first teased a director’s cut of the film last year. Disney later announced that this new cut would debut on June 11 across streaming platforms, but that date passed without the film’s release. Sources indicated that minor last-minute tweaks to the edit were responsible for the delay, but reassured fans that it would arrive soon. With the recent announcement of the August release, it looks like Carter’s vision will finally be unveiled.
When Carter discussed the R-rated cut of I Want to Believe, he noted that the original version was deemed too frightening. The distributor wanted a PG-13 rating, which led to cuts that diluted the film’s impact, with additional edits made to satisfy censors. I Want to Believe Vrach Frankenshteyn promises to be a significantly different experience compared to both the original release and the DVD “Extended Cut,” which only added three minutes of footage.
The new title translates to “Victor Frankenstein,” the infamous creator from Mary Shelley’s classic novel that laid the groundwork for modern horror. While the plot of I Want to Believe doesn’t directly tie to the novel, the title suggests a stronger emphasis on horror, fitting for an R-rated film. The story unfolds after the original series, following Mulder and Scully as they come together to tackle a case involving body mutilation and psychic phenomena.
For X-Files enthusiasts, there’s plenty to be excited about. Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Sinners, is currently developing a reboot of the series. While no release date has been announced, the casting has already attracted some notable names. It’s a thrilling time to be a fan of The X-Files.
