Coolpad Launches $150 Android Phone with a Wider Screen, Similar to iPhone Duo, But No Folding Feature
The emergence of widescreen folding phones like the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Huawei Pura X View, and the iPhone Duo is starting to reshape the landscape of traditional smartphones. Following the trend set by the Huawei Pura X View, which debuted in China last August, the new Coolpad Cool X Wide boasts a significantly wider display than what you typically find in standard smartphones. Its screen size is comparable to that of a small tablet, similar to what you’d experience with the iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 when closed, but without the hefty price tags, costly repairs, and the common issue of screen creases.
Currently, the Coolpad Cool X Wide is available for preorder on JD.com in China for 999 Chinese Yuan, roughly $150, and comes in black, red, or white. Shipping is slated to begin on November 8th. While its display may remind you of the latest high-end foldables, this device is firmly positioned as a budget-friendly Android option. It runs on a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be upgraded to 256GB for about $180, or to 12GB of RAM for around $209.
The Cool X Wide features a 6.38-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, offering refresh rates up to 90Hz and a resolution of 1,158×720. It also includes a 50-megapixel main camera on the back and a 4,600mAh battery. The phone ships with Android 16, but its processor limits connectivity to 4G networks.
In terms of size, the Cool X Wide is nearly the same height as the iPhone 18 Pro, but it measures 3.72 inches in width compared to Apple’s 2.83 inches, giving it a distinctly broader feel in hand.
