Crimson Desert’s inaugural DLC is on track for a year-end launch.
Despite a lukewarm reception at its launch, *Crimson Desert* has emerged as one of the standout titles of the year. It was only a matter of time before the developer announced plans for downloadable content (DLC), which they did back in June. While specifics have been limited, a recent earnings report has shed light on when players can expect the first DLC for this action RPG.
In their second-quarter earnings letter, the developer highlighted DLC as a key component of their strategy to expand *Crimson Desert*. They indicated that they are “targeting a release within this year” for the initial DLC. With only a few months left in the year, anticipation is building. Although the letter didn’t provide details on gameplay or pricing, more information is expected in the third quarter. The company also mentioned that future expansions will depend on the performance of the first DLC.
Another exciting aspect of *Crimson Desert*’s growth is its potential expansion to new platforms. The developer has previously hinted at plans to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch 2, and the earnings report offers some encouraging news: the game has “reached a playable baseline” on the new console. They are currently conducting technical reviews to enhance performance and quality, with a target release for the Switch 2 version set for the first half of 2027.
The earnings letter also contained a few intriguing notes. The developer confirmed that there are no plans to port the game to mobile devices, as such a move would compromise the game’s graphical fidelity. Additionally, there are discussions about expanding multiplayer options, responding to fan interest. While adding a co-op or multiplayer mode would be a complex endeavor, the developer is conducting “extensive” research into its feasibility. It remains unclear whether this would manifest as an expansion for *Crimson Desert* or as a new title altogether. However, the developer has made it clear that they view *Crimson Desert* as the foundation of a franchise, so players can expect more official announcements about future developments.
