Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils Long-Awaited Lore Details for Fans

With just 24 episodes under its belt, Critical Role’s latest Dungeons & Dragons campaign has already delivered some astonishing twists. The world of Aramán, crafted by Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan, is steeped in a rich history that unfolds with each episode, revealing layers of lore that fans are eager to explore.

While the details shared in each episode are limited, insights from The Lore Keeper’s Ledger—an exclusive monthly newsletter for members—have provided crucial lore about Campaign 4’s deities, known as The Shapers, and a timeline of events from the first 24 episodes. These revelations not only deepen our understanding but also hint at what’s to come.

First off, the Ledger has clarified some long-standing questions about The Shapers, including their names, titles, domains, and which inhabitants of Aramán are their offspring. Throughout Campaign 4, The Shapers have been referenced multiple times, and for those piecing together the clues, this confirmation is a welcome addition.

Omra, the latest Shaper, was introduced in episode 24, “Good Tidings.” Unlike his counterparts, Omra is not credited with creating his children, the Beastfolk (like Travis Willingham’s Katari paladin, Teor Pridesire); instead, he awakened them from a dormant state.

In the timeline of Campaign 4, it has been 71 years since the Shapers’ War—a conflict ignited by the orcs wielding the Pariah Blades against their god, Azgra. Despite Azgra’s harshness towards his followers, the other Shapers rushed to his aid, causing mortals to question the gods’ loyalty. This led to a devastating war that ultimately resulted in the destruction of the gods of Aramán.

With the gods gone, mortals were free to carve their own destinies, but the aftermath was dire. The celestial servants of the Shapers descended into madness, facing either death or imprisonment. The absence of psychopomps, who guided souls to the afterlife, left many souls in limbo and contributed to a rise in the undead across Aramán. Magic also lost much of its potency, and regions where the Shapers fell transformed into Barrowdells—dangerous and inhospitable areas like the Stormwrack’s relentless storms and the Eternal Night’s unending darkness.

Despite the Shapers’ absence, many in Aramán still honor them. At the Archanade’s gala, celebrating Halandil Fang’s upcoming play, attendees don masks inspired by The Shapers. However, this anonymity complicates matters for the Schemers, who struggle to identify one another.

The episode “Good Tidings” concluded on a tense cliffhanger, with King Augustus of Timmony facing imminent assassination, leaving the Schemers with mere moments to intervene.

Regardless of how the gala unfolds, it appears the Schemers won’t be facing the aftermath alone. The Ledger has provided a timeline that clarifies the events across the different tables in their respective arcs.

In total, only 10 days have passed since Thjazi Fang’s execution—an event that occurred 24 episodes ago when Campaign 4 premiered on October 2, 2025. Three days later, the Schemers laid Thjazi to rest, while the Seekers ventured into the Kavrosi Mountains, and the Soldiers found refuge in the fairy camp of Hawthorn’s Glade. Seven days later, the Archanade gala takes place, with the Ledger indicating that both the Soldiers and Seekers are “nearing their return to the city.”

From the start of Campaign 4, it was clear that with 13 cast members, keeping everyone at the same table would be a challenge, necessitating the split into three smaller groups: Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemers. However, with the other two tables returning to the city, it seems likely that several pivotal events are on the horizon, requiring the full strength of the Campaign 4 cast to confront them.

Episode 25 of Critical Role Campaign 4 is set to air this Thursday night at 10 p.m. PDT on various platforms.
