Critical Role Unveils First Trailer for Age of Umbra: A New Nightmare Awaits
Age of Umbra: Sallowlands, the latest tabletop RPG miniseries from the creators of Critical Role, is just around the corner. After months of anticipation, the eerie, gothic series trailer has been unveiled, and it promises to be as spine-chilling as its predecessor, Age of Umbra.
In mid-June, the five main characters of the miniseries were introduced: Sister; Dillwyn and her companion Badger; Caguama; Alphonse; and Mercy, portrayed by Critical Role co-founder Laura Bailey, Jennifer English, Abubakar Salim, Vico Ortiz, and Zachery Renauldo, respectively. Matthew Mercer, who stepped back from his role as Dungeon Master during Campaign 4, will return to lead these new adventurers in the Daggerheart miniseries.
The Sallowlands trailer reveals that these five survivors will venture into the treacherous Halcyon Domain. Once a magnificent celestial realm ruled by the God-King Oethedias, it has now fallen into decay and despair. With the gods absent, communities in ruins, and hope dwindling, the situation worsens as the dead rise again as twisted nightmares, spreading destruction across the land.
However, a glimmer of hope emerges with rumors of a “gargantuan metropolis appearing out of nowhere.” This potential new haven, brimming with life and magic, ignites the survivors’ hopes for a world that could offer them salvation and a glimpse of something magnificent.
The official description of Sallowlands highlights that players will face brutal foes and high stakes in this dark and emotional actual play, delving into themes of desperation, survival, and love against overwhelming odds.
While we can expect plenty of violence in this grim fantasy setting, Critical Role is celebrated for weaving narratives that find hope even in the darkest times. Fans will discover just how much light this new series brings when the first episode of Age of Umbra: Sallowlands premieres on July 9.
