Crunchyroll adds a French thriller from the mind behind Snowpiercer to its lineup.
French graphic novelist Jean-Marc Rochette is widely recognized for his work on *Snowpiercer*, a 1982 post-apocalyptic narrative that was adapted into a film by Bong Joon Ho and later inspired a 2020 TNT series. Now, his 2019 comic *The Wolf* is set to make its way to the big screen as an animated thriller, slated for release on Crunchyroll next year.
*The Wolf* is co-directed and co-written by Benjamin Massoubre and Fursy Tessier, who previously collaborated on the unique horror film *I Lost My Body*. The story centers on Gaspard, a shepherd living in solitude in the Alps, who grapples with the grief of losing his son. When a rogue wolf threatens his sheep, Gaspard embarks on a quest for revenge, forcing him to confront his own guilt and sorrow along the way.
Both *The Wolf* and *I Lost My Body* are animated by the French studio Xilam Films. The animation for *The Wolf* will blend traditional drawing methods with 3D techniques to create a visually striking, live-action feel.
By distributing a French film, Crunchyroll is expanding its extensive anime library to include global animation. This strategic move positions the streaming service to compete with Netflix and Prime Video, both of which are enhancing their adult animation offerings to tap into the genre’s growing popularity.
